Nuview is a US space start-up that plans to scan the entire earth with its 3D LIDAR technology to provide a better global elevation model. While the full constellation will comprise 20 satellites, a first launch is yet to be planned. The company promises a centimeter accuracy, visibility through tree canopy and a full earth mapping updated yearly.
The company made the headlines recently as actor Leonardo DiCaprio (through his foundation) joined other investors in the company. Nuview raised $15M so far.

This project is a welcome addition to the global elevation models that are currently available. The most famous is the model issued from the NASA SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) that was collected in 2000 with a 30m resolution… An accurate update is really expected!
