Another interesting piece of news in our everchanging satellite world: Chinese automaker Geely announced that it plans to launch its own satellite constellation. As a matter of fact, Geely created a subsidiary (Geelyspace as you may have guessed) that already launched 9 satellites on June 2nd on a Chang Zheng-2C rocket. These satellites follow the first two protoypes launched in 2021 and are part of a project of 240 satellites that will offer services to the auto industry: ultra high positioning accuracy (probably for autonomous driving) added to broadband connectivity (probably to have access to TikTok in the car).
This piece of news shows (again) that space is no longer the specialty of rocket science companies and that China intends to be a major player in this field. Geely makes the Geely cars (obviously) but owns otehr brands such as Lotus, Volvo and polestar.
